It’s the center of the LDS Church and one of the more recognizable buildings in the United States. I found out after my visit to the Salt Lake City Temple that it’s actually made out of quartz monzonite (similar to granite) that was quarried from about 20 miles outside of Salt Lake City. The total floor area of the Temple is 253,000 square feet.
