Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, became a focal point of the 1950’s Civil Rights Movement when nine African-American students faced a mob of more than 1,000 White American parents and students who protested their attendance at the school. This event became the first important test of the Supreme Court’s historic Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision. Central High School became a National Historic Landmark site in 1982.
